PROJECT BY FEDERICA FALCONE

Carabidda is a journey into the Sardinian pastoral culture, which lives in the contemporary world but at the same time coexists with a distant past bringing with it a language, customs and social codes typical of a family / tribe of the archaic past. “Cara a bidda”, in Sardinian language literally means “towards one’s own country”, going home, or simply, the ‘bidda’ is one’s origin. The characters in this story are various, but with two in particular my existence has intertwined in recent years; the first, a shepherd from the Montiferru area, welcomed me in his long days of work and in the memories of his history as a man; the second character is from Barbagia, a region of inner Sardinia, which has culturally and socially preserved the characters and expressions of the archaic people. At this point the photographic story ends, and my existence begins as “fiza e anima” (daughter of soul), of a Barbagia’s shepherd whose footsteps I have taken as a shepherdess, learning a trade that takes centuries without measure.
