INMOST NATURE

Lithuania, one summer a few years ago. I had never been there before, had no connection. Yet, to that land, I immediately felt connected. Accomplicated by an atmosphere that brought back memories of childhood emotions. Memories that I rediscovered in a new way, but with the same awe. Guiding me on this intimate journey was nature. The sand dunes overlooking the Baltic Sea. The hills thick with pines, birches, spruces. The fields of wheat, barley, rye. A place of silence and serenity, where to detach from the frantic rush of the world, to go back in time and find places – real and emotional – that I thought were lost forever. The light, the clouds, the warm summer wind. The afternoons spent playing ball in the little field below the house. The flowers in the grandparents’ garden. The sunsets on the beach together with friends. Deserted cities in the sultry August heat. Snapshots crystallized in memory, which my photos also restored to reality, blending past and present, heart and mind. In an unbreakable bond of familiarity and empathy toward a world of concrete, tangible experiences. A world that made me rediscover the most precious freedom, that of thought. The only one that can make us truly happy.
