SLEEPING WITH GHOSTS
“Obsession” by Claudio Composti
“Everything interesting happens in the shadows, really. Nothing is known about the real history of men.” Celine – Journey to the End of the Night The night. That’s where the obsessions take shape and become a giant monster to fight against. It is there that the torments of Clare’s soul come to life. In a dreamlike journey in which wakefulness and sleep alternate his roles as victim and executioner, in a private Grand Guignol theater. His daily life enters overbearingly into the shadows of that room, from which he cannot get out, in a continuous obsession that mixes memory, hallucination, perhaps desire. The body becomes a medium to express the discomfort and fear of loneliness, of abandonment. It is presence rather than body. It is self-concept. It shows us places not places, rooms of the mind, anchored to reality only by a few moments when it peers out the window at the outside world, or perhaps oblivion. It is not known. Only to return to the haunting loop of memory, to that bed that becomes a symbol of transition and transformation, necessarily passing through pain and death to be reborn into the light and making that inner darkness a bulwark of courage and change.
