Description

Carabidda

Carabidda is a journey within the Sardinian pastoral culture that lives in the contemporary but at the same time coexists with a distant past, bringing with it a language, customs, and social codes proper to a family/tribe heir to an archaic time. “Cara a bidda,” in the Sardinian language, literally means ‘toward one’s country,’ the return home, or more simply, the bidda is one’s origin. The characters in this narrative are various, but with two in particular my existence has also been intertwined in recent years; the first a shepherd from the Montiferru area, welcomed me into his long days of work and memories of his history as a man; the second character is from Barbagia, which more than others has culturally and socially preserved characters and expressions of the archaic people. At this point the photographic tale ends, and my existence as “fiza e anima” (daughter of soul) begins, of a Barbagian shepherd whose footsteps I have taken as a shepherd, learning a trade that carries within it centuries without measure.
